Shikhar Dhawan played his last match for Team India against Bangladesh on December 10, 2022. After this, he was not seen on the team again. Shikhar Dhawan posted, “I am ending the chapter of my cricket journey. I am taking many memories with me. Thank you for your love and support.”

He said, “Today I am standing at a turning point from where when I look back, I can only see memories and when I look forward, I can see a whole world. I had only one goal, to play for India and that happened, for which I am thankful to many people. First of all, my family, my childhood friends Tariq Sinha Sir and Madan Sharma, the team with which I played for years.”
He said, “I have family, fame, and companionship, but as they say, it is important to turn the pages to move forward in the story and I am going to do the same. I announce my retirement from international and domestic cricket. At this moment, I have peace in my heart knowing that I played for Team India for so many years. I am thankful to BCCI, DDCA for giving me this opportunity. Along with that, to all my fans who gave me so much love.”

Shikhar Dhawan was once an important batsman for India. His opening pair with Rohit Sharma made many records. Dhawan played 34 Test matches for India in which he scored 2315 runs. Dhawan scored five half-centuries and seven centuries in Tests. He scored a century in his debut match itself. In ODIs, he played 167 matches for India in which he scored 6793 runs. In the 50-over format, Dhawan scored 17 centuries and 39 half-centuries. Dhawan also played 68 T20 matches for India in which 1759 runs came from his bat. Dhawan scored 11 half-centuries in T20.
