Champions Trophy: Australia Suffered an Important Setback Hazelwood and Cummins are Also Out

Before the Champions Trophy, the Australian team has had an important setback. Josh Hazlewood and Pat Cummins have also been ruled out of the Champions Trophy. With Hazlewood-Cummins out, the Australian side will now need to make four lineup changes for the Champions Trophy.

The 19th of this month marks the beginning of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. This season, the Champions Trophy matches will be held using the “hybrid format” in Dubai and three locations in Pakistan: Karachi, Rawalpindi, and Lahore. Before to the Champions Trophy, the Australian squad has experienced major challenges.

Josh Hazlewood, a fast bowler, and captain Pat Cummins have both been ruled out of the upcoming Champions Trophy. Cummins has struggled to get over his ankle injury. This problem also plagued Cummins throughout the 2024–25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Hazlewood, but has a hip issue. Hazlewood has already strained his hip and calf. Before playing again, Cummins and Hazlewood will go through a rehabilitation process.

The Australian team will now need to make four changes to their Champions Trophy lineup due to the absence of Pat Cummins and Josh Hazlewood. Due to an injury, Mitchell Marsh has already been ruled out. Marcus Stoinis abruptly declared that he was retiring from ODI cricket.

In the Champions Trophy, Hazlewood’s precision accuracy and control will be missed by the Australian squad, while Pat Cummins’ absence will mean that they will be missing a fantastic leader, bowler, and batsman. In ODI cricket, Hazlewood and Cummins have combined for 281 wickets. During the 2023 Cricket World Cup, Cummins captained the Australian team.

The Champions Trophy 2025 will consist of 15 games between 8 teams. Two groups have been formed from these eight teams. Pakistan and India are both in Group A. Bangladesh and New Zealand are the other two teams that join them. England, South Africa, Australia, and Afghanistan have been assigned to Group-B. In their separate groups, all eight teams will play three to three games. The top two teams from each group will then advance to the semifinals. Four locations will host all 15 of the Champions Trophy matches. Three locations will be in Pakistan for this. Dubai will be one of the locations. All of the Indian team’s games will be held in Dubai.
