Big Update on The IPL Big Auction: This Nation, not India or Dubai, Could be Hosting it

The fans are really excited about the big auction for the 2025 Indian Premier League. By the end of the year, it must be set up. The BCCI, or Board of Control for Cricket in India, has released the rules for this respected competition. This included preventing international players from leaving the league and retaining players. According to some rumours, the board may hold the IPL 2025 big auction outside of India in the meantime.

In this nation, a mega auction might be organised.

Dubai hosted the auction for the IPL 2024. According to a rumour published by Cricbuzz, Saudi Arabia may host the auction for the next IPL season. This two-day event might be held in Jeddah or Riyadh. But as of right now, neither the IPL nor the BCCI have disclosed any such information. This source also adds that London was going to be considered as a potential location at the same time. But the board was forced to give it up because of the local weather.

Important decisions were taken at the high-level council meeting.

Decisions were taken on various other topics, including retention in the IPL apex council meeting. The IPL clubs are permitted to keep up to six players from their former teams, according to the ruling council. A Right to Match (RTM) card will be included in the auction as well. A team was permitted to keep up to four players in the most recent mega auction, which took place in 2022.

Increasing the salary cap.

Out of six players, including Indian and international players, a franchise may keep a maximum of five capped players and a maximum of two uncapped players. In other words, a team must hold onto its sixth uncapped player if it has selected five capped players. In addition, the auction purse for the 2025 Indian Premier League has been raised to Rs 120 crore at the same time. Match fees, incremental performance pay, and auction purse will now be included in the overall salary ceiling. The previous wage cap, which included an auction purse and increased performance pay, was Rs 110 crore. It will rise to Rs 151 crore in 2026 and Rs 157 crore in 2027.

After buying the auction, there will be a penalty if you do not play for the season.

A player will be banned from both the player auction and the tournament for two seasons if they sign up for it and, after being chosen, withdraw from the player auction before the season begins. Any international player who wants to take part in the main auction must also register. A foreign player will not be allowed to register for the player auction the next year if he does not register.
