Vinod Kambli and Sachin Tendulkar, regarded as two of the nation’s best cricket players, had a bright beginning to their careers. In a Harris Shield match, the two scored a historic 664-run partnership for their school, Sharadashram Vidyamandir, and recorded an undefeated triple century.

On the occasion of the great cricket coach Ramakant Achrekar’s memorial being unveiled in Mumbai, a video went viral. In the video, Vinod Kambli and cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar finally cross paths. Kambli, 52, appeared much older than his years and extremely frail. The meeting between Sachin and Kambli made headlines. Now, a longtime friend of both has revealed something new about that encounter.

In fact, Vinod Kambli’s singing video went viral during this show. Many people thought Kambli was intoxicated based on the way he sang, but one of his friends has since clarified that Kambli was simply acting emotional during the show.

Regarding Kambli’s response, Marcus Couto, a cricket friend from his youth, told our partner Times of India, “He was not drunk.” For the past year, he has not touched a drop of alcohol. The only issue is that he got very emotional during a brief encounter with Sachin, who gave him a heartfelt welcome on stage. He could not wait to meet Sachin and take part in the event.

A few years after Sachin Tendulkar, Vinod Kambli also had the opportunity to play for the Indian team. The left-handed batsman had a strong start to his career as well, but his form quickly deteriorated. Despite playing 104 ODIs and 17 Test matches, Kambli was unable to make a significant impact.

When Kambli’s first video of him struggling to walk on the road went viral on social media in August, Couto met him at his Bandra home. Kapil Dev, the legendary captain of the Indian cricket team, also backed Kambli. Balwinder Singh Sandhu, the former fast bowler for India, stated: “Kapil has made it very evident to me that we are prepared to provide him with financial support if he wishes to enter a rehabilitation facility.” But first, he will need to undergo rehabilitation. No matter how long the treatment takes, we are prepared to cover the cost if he does.
