WHO Issues Alert As Chandipura Virus Claims Over 80 Lives In India

The chandipura virus is wreaking havoc in india,

This time in India, the Chandipura virus has broken the records of the last 20 years. According to the WHO, a total of 245 cases of this virus have been reported between June and August 15, including 82 deaths. WHO says that cases of this virus have been reported in previous years as well, but this year the level of infection has become extremely dangerous.

How does the Chandipura virus spread?

Chandipura virus, also known as CHP virus, spreads more during monsoons in India’s western, central, and southern states. This year its first cases were recorded in Gujarat, after which the infection spread to other states. This virus spreads through mosquito and fly bites, and its cases are seen most in children. There is no specific treatment or vaccine available for this virus. The patient is treated only based on symptoms.

Chandipura is more dangerous than Corona

The death rate of the Chandipura virus is many times higher than that of the Coronavirus. The death rate in Corona was around 2%, but in Chandipura, this figure is 50 to 75%. That is, out of 100 infected patients, 50 to 75 patients are at risk of death. Its infection spreads rapidly, especially in children, and causes brain fever by affecting the brain. If treatment is not received within 48 to 72 hours of getting infected, death can occur.

WHO alert

WHO says that since July 19, there has been a decrease in cases of the Chandipura virus, but there is a need to be cautious. After the rains, the risk of diseases spread by mosquitoes and flies increases. In such a situation, special attention should be paid to preventive measures against this virus. Timely investigation and reporting of infected people can reduce the death toll.

How to prevent the Chandipura virus

.Keep your surroundings clean to avoid mosquitoes and flies.

.Use mosquito nets inside the house and keep the body covered when going out.

.If symptoms like fever, headache, vomiting, or brain fever are seen, contact the doctor immediately.
