Over the years, Dil Se, a war movie directed by Mani Ratnam, has become a cult favorite. The heartbreaking end to Shah Rukh Khan and Manisha Koirala’s lost love story impacted fans for years. Now, the actress has revealed some startling details about the movie in an interview with ANI. She revealed that the script had been changed at the last minute and spoke up about what happened behind the camera. Shah Rukh’s character was not even supposed to die in the original draft.
Shah Rukh as Amarkant Verma, a journalist for All India Radio, who develops feelings for Manisha’s Meghna, a suicide bomber and terrorist. He dies with Meghna when she sets the device on fire to end her life.
“The original script that we agreed upon had a larger purpose than love for both characters,” the actress explained. We all agreed that he ought to allow her to die in the original version, but they made a last-minute change.”
Everyone in the final version tried to show that he loved her, but he also could not let her do that or live without her. They were attempting to portray it as a significant sacrifice on his behalf, which was not the case in the original script, but he stops her and dies as a result. As they could not possibly get together, I only enjoyed the original version at the time. She explained what happened in the last hour by saying, “There are times when one-sided love is more interesting than a full-fledged love story.”
Last shown in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s web series Heeramandi, Manisha Koirala has been in a number of blockbuster movies, like Khamoshi, Mann, Gupt, Akele Hum Akele Tum, Bombay, and 1942: A Love Story.
