Indian teenager Gursimran Kaur was found dead in a bakery oven at Walmart Canada. She and her mother had worked at Walmart Mumford Road for two years and were both known to be part of the Sikh community in Halifax.
The body of the 19-year-old was found by her mother on October 19 inside a walk-in oven at a Walmart bakery in Halifax, Canada. Gursimran Kaur’s mother found her daughter dead while the store was open.
The exact cause of Gursimran Kaur’s death and the circumstances surrounding the incident are not yet known. Halifax Regional Police are investigating the tragic incident.
Gursimran Kaur and her mother originally came from England and moved to Canada three years ago hoping for a better future. Gursimran’s father and brother are in India, and the Maritime Sikh Society is working to bring them from India to Canada.
GoFundMe Campaign for Gursimran Kaur
The Maritime Sikh Society has set up a GoFundMe campaign following the incident involving Gursimran Kaur to cover funeral expenses and reunite her father and brother with her mother in Canada.
With the support of the Canadian community, the GoFundMe campaign for Gursimran Kaur’s last rites has gone from a target of $50,000 to over $188,000 in 10 hours, or around Rs. 1,58,93,220.
Walmart’s Response to Gursimran Kaur Incident
Following the incident, Walmart has closed its bakeries and is offering 24/7 virtual counseling and grief support to affected staff members. Walmart will also provide compensation to all employees affected by the store closures.
Walmart will also provide alternative work arrangements for other employees if necessary while the closures continue dua to the incident.
Public support is also directed at Gursimran Kaur’s family because this tragic event made the mother feel a deep loss for her daughter. This incident also shook the local community and raised many questions.
Meanwhile, the police are still trying to investigate the actual events that led to the loss of Gursimran Kaur’s life at the Walmart bakery where she worked with her mother.
