Rishabh Pant Beats Shreyas Iyer to Become The Most Expensive Player at Rs 27 Crore

Rishabh pant beats shreyas iyer to become the most expensive player at rs 27 crore

A few hours ago, Rishabh Pant surpassed Shreyas Iyer to become the most expensive player in Indian Premier League (IPL) history. On Sunday, November 24, at the IPL 2025 mega auction in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, Rishabh was purchased by the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) for Rs 27 crore.

Punjab Kings paid Rs 26.75 crore for Iyer, more than Mitchell Starc did for Rs 24.75 crore, but LSG quickly made headlines with Pant.

The Indian Premier League’s (IPL) official X handle announced that Rishabh Pant was up for auction in Jeddah, where LSG was selling him for Rs 27 crore.

Punjab Kings chose RTM for other talented players like Arshdeep Singh, who was first in line at the auction today. Sunrisers Hyderabad put in a bid of Rs 18 crore, which the Kings accepted, and PBKS was able to acquire Arshdeep Singh for the 2025 Indian Premier League. The Sunrisers Hyderabad, Gujarat Titans, Rajasthan Royals, Chennai Super Kings, and Delhi Capitals all made bids for the T20 World Cup hero.

As long as the franchise has not kept all six of the players that were released at auction, the right-to-match (RTM) system permits them to keep one of the players.

Second place went to Shreyas Iyer. Iyer was the most costly player in the auction, second only to Rishabh Pant, who was purchased by the Punjab Kings for Rs 26.75 crore following bidding with KKR and Delhi Capitals. Iyer surpassed the Rs 24.75 crore mark set by Mitchell Starc.

For Pant’s bid, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) started bidding. In between SRH and LSG, RCB chose to opt out. Despite choosing RTM, the Delhi Capitals declined to pursue Pant after LSG raised his price, making him the most costly player at the Jeddah auction with a total of Rs 27 crore.

Following a bidding battle between KKR and CSK, KL Rahul was purchased by the Delhi Capitals for Rs 14 crore. After playing against the Chennai Super Kings, Gujarat Titans, and Lucknow Super Giants, Punjab Kings also paid Rs 18 crore to acquire Yuzvendra Chahal. In addition to this, the auction has already seen a number of other fascinating activities.
