Ricky Ponting has stated his goals imply: he wants the Punjab Kings to be the most thrilling side in the 2025 Indian Premier League. Since placing second in the 2014 playoffs, PBKS has not played
Punjab Kings will be the “most fascinating franchise” in the Indian Premier League (IPL) by 2025, says Ricky Ponting. While PBKS has taken part in every tournament since its start in 2008, they have not yet won a title.
Prabhsimran Singh and Shashank Singh were the only two uncapped players kept by the Kings in the retentions that were held on Thursday, October 31. Of the ten teams playing in the match, PBKS has the largest purse of Rs 110.5 crore, all while spending just Rs 9.5 crore.
A new beginning excites me the most. The retention list is the first step in that strategy. Ponting told ICC Review, “My steps with Punjab (Kings) are well shown. We have the biggest amount of money going into the auction; just we only have two uncapped players. Therefore, we can put together a full team of players,” Ponting stated.
I want us to be the IPL’s most entertaining and dynamic team and collection of players.
The existence of some non-Indians surprises me.
Ponting was also taken aback by the fact that the Delhi Capitals (DC), Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) did not retain KL Rahul, Shreyas Iyer, or Rishabh Pant.
A lot of interesting players are present. Too many. Given that Rishabh Pant and Shreyas Iyer are both up for auction, I am a little shocked that some of the non-Indian players were retained.
This was more than expected, even for KL Rahul. Others or teams appear to be focused with moving some of their players in a different direction,” Ponting noted.
Since placing as runners-up in 2014, PBKS has never been able to go past the group stage. They only won five of their nine games last year, ranking ninth.
