Guo Lingling added to the ranks of China’s women who dominated the first day of powerlifting at the 2024 Paris Paralympic games.
In Paralympic powerlifting, Guo Lingling (35) broke her own record in taking gold in the up to 45 kilograms class on Wednesday, 5 August 2024.
Meanwhile, British’s athlete Zoe Newson is in second place with 14 kilograms lighter. And Guo Lingling’s contribution kept her country atop of the overall medal table at Paralympic Paris 2024.
Lingling said the atmosphere in the stadium can give her strength and inspiration, because the audience seemed amazed by her action and cheered on the opening day Paralympic powerlifting action at the Porte de La Chapelle arena.
“I am very excited and happy, the atmosphere at the stadium was so very inspiring to me,” she added.
China’s government already spends a lot of money to train their people, that’s the reason why they will always be the first on the gold medal tally, that’s what Guo Lingling said in an interview.
In the Paralympic powerlifting 41 category, previously secured by Guo Lingling’s compatriot Cui Zhe who already turned 38 in December.
Cui Zhe finally claimed the gold medal by lifting almost three times for her weight in 119 kilograms and following four silvers in her previous games appearances.
She already had faith in herself and believed that she could get the gold because she always gives the best performance at the competitions.
“To become a Paralympic champion has always been my target and i’ve always have faith in getting it done,” Cui Zhe added.
