An earthquake measuring 4.2 on the SR rocked India precisely in the Patan district in North Gujarat. The earthquake occurred on Friday evening, the institute for Seismological Research (ISR) said.
When an earthquake occurred, people felt seismic movement and immediately ran out of their houses. According to an official of the state control room in Gandhinagar, fortunately no casualties or loss of property were reported in the area.
According to the ISR located in Gandhinagar, the peak of the earthquake was at 10.15 pm with the earthquake location being 13 km south southwest of Patan. Several districts reported shaking and it was only felt for two to seconds, namely in the northern district of Banaskantha, Patan, Sabarkantha adn Mehsana.
Uniquely, this state has experienced nine earthquakes in the last 200 years. The most powerful earthquake that occurred on January 26, 2001, was located in the Kutch district. The data has been released by the Gujarat State Disaster Management Authority or GSDMA.
To date, no reports have been received regarding any casualties, injuries or property damage due to the 4.2 magnitude earthquake.
